Top Consumer Finance Apps in South Africa Q3 2022: Unified Platform Performance

In the third quarter of 2022, the top five consumer finance applications in South Africa displayed diverse trends in downloads and active user metrics on a unified platform. Here’s a closer look at their performance:

Capitec Bank saw significant growth in weekly downloads, particularly towards the end of the quarter. Downloads peaked at around 124K in the last week of September, up from approximately 57K at the start of the quarter. The app's active user base also experienced an upward trend, rising from about 3M to over 3.1M by the end of September.

The FNB Banking App maintained a steady download rate throughout the quarter, with weekly downloads hovering around 32K. Active users, however, experienced a slight decline, starting at approximately 1.95M and ending at around 1.79M.

Nedbank Money also showed consistent weekly download numbers, averaging around 27K to 30K. The app’s active user count remained relatively stable, with minor fluctuations, ending the quarter with about 424K active users.

TymeBank demonstrated a gradual increase in weekly downloads, peaking at around 32K in the last week of September. The number of active users also grew steadily, from approximately 538K to over 605K by the end of the quarter.

Finally, Standard Bank / Stanbic Bank maintained a stable download rate, with weekly downloads averaging around 26K. The app's active user base showed a slight increase, starting at about 491K and reaching over 502K by the end of September.
